This existing plywood-lined guest suite at The Sea Ranch provided the framework for a new intervention rooted in the place itself. Reimagined as a comfortable, self-contained retreat, the short-term rental takes the optimistic design language of 1960s Sea Ranch as its starting point.
A compact kitchenette in ultramarine laminate over plywood provides the essentials for simple meals while keeping attention on the landscape outside. Bruno Munari’s sculptural Falkland lamp hangs alongside furniture by Charles and Ray Eames and Bruno Rey, with Marimekko textiles adding pattern and warmth. These considered selections draw on the particular mix of architecture, graphics and modern design that defined early Sea Ranch, capturing its spirit without slipping into nostalgia.
The result is a more considered guest experience: relaxed, useful and distinctly contemporary, yet unmistakably Sea Ranch.
