Framestudio reworked this compact 1980 townhouse overlooking San Francisco Bay for a pair of creative professionals and collectors of Italian design. Attributed to architect John Nance, the redesign takes its cues from the original architecture, the owners’ collection and the setting.
The kitchen was enlarged, laundry moved upstairs and the house converted to all-electric. Cork and natural-rubber floors meet old-growth redwood trim, drawing on Northern California modernism and The Sea Ranch.
Deep-red Fenix cabinetry anchors the kitchen, with a mirrored backsplash bringing Bay views inside. A pale-blue curved wall borrows from Le Corbusier’s palette, while original West German bathroom tiles were carefully restored. The result is colorful, tactile and quietly idiosyncratic — renewed without sanding away the house’s character.
