This plywood-lined guest suite at The Sea Ranch provided the framework for a new intervention rooted in the place itself. Reimagined as a self-contained retreat, the short-term rental takes the optimistic design language of 1960s Sea Ranch as its starting point and gives it a contemporary expression.
A compact kitchenette in ultramarine laminate and plywood provides everything needed for simple meals while leaving the landscape to take centre stage. Bruno Munari’s Falkland lamp joins furniture by Charles and Ray Eames and Bruno Rey, with Marimekko textiles adding color and pattern — a mix that reflects the architecture, graphics and modern design of early Sea Ranch.
The result is a small but generous retreat: casual, colorful and carefully considered, with an easy character that feels entirely at home at The Sea Ranch — and has resonated with guests.
